Two Weeks in Nanyang Polytechnic International Singapore

This a very nice experience where we learn and share with the Nanyang Polytechnic International, Singapore. All the instructors and staffs shared many information and experience to 18 lecturers from Universitas Negeri Padang (UNP).

This campus is situated in Ang Mo Kio that is connected to many areas in Singapore. This campus has implemented e-learning in all faculties in this polytechnic.

English Department Publishes Two More Scientific journals

After issuing Lingua Didaktika a journal on Language, Literature, and Language Teaching, English Department of FBS Universitas Negeri Padang publishes Journal of English Language Teaching and English Language and Literature.

These two journals aim at publishing ideas, researches, and opinion related to language, literature and teaching development. These journal will be launched formally by Rector of Universitas Negeri Padang, Prof. Dr. Phil. Yanuar Kiram. on Friday, September 28, 2012.


International Seminar on Languages and Arts

Faculty of Languages and Arts of State University of Padang (FBS UNP) will conduct an International Seminar. This seminar is planed on 20-21 October 2012. There will be 4keynote speakers from various countries.

  • Prof. Brenton Doecke (Deakin University, Australia) English Language Teaching expert,
  • Prof. Dr. Zaenal Abdul Latif (Pusat Kebudayaan University Malaya, Malaysia)  performing art expert,
  • Dr. Karta Jayadi, M.Sn. (Dekan Fakultas Seni dan Desain Univ. Negeri Makasar, Indonesia) fine art expert,
  • Prof. Dr. Hasanudin WS, M.Hum. (FBS Universitas Negeri Padang, Indonesia) Indonesian Literarature expert..

The theme of the seminar is “Revitalizing the teaching of languages and arts .”

The seminar organizers invite language and art teachers in schools, education institutes, universities, education administrators, policy makers, researchers and all those who are interested in the language learning and teaching to submit their paper (full) for parallel sessions.

The seminar will be conducted at four stars hotel in Padang “Grand Inna Muara” Padang.

Important dates:

  • 30 September 2012 : the deadline of sending abstract
  • 3 Oktober 2012: the information/announcement of abstract acceptance
  • 10 Oktober 2012:  the deadline for sending complete paper
  • 20-21 Oktober 2012:  the seminar days


The seminar presenters and participants have to register and pay for registration fee; the latest date is October 15, 2012. The payment is as follow:

  1. Presenters from Indonesia (with proceeding) : IDR 350,000,-
  2. Presenters from Indonesia (without proceeding) : IDR 200,000,-
  3. Presenters from abroad : US $ 100
  4. Participants (undergraduate program): IDR 150,000,-
  5. Participants (teachers/graduate program): IDR 200,000,-
  6. Participants (UNP lecturers): IDR 250,000,-
  7. Participants (lecturers): IDR 300,000,-

Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Padang (FBS UNP) akan melaksanakan Seminar Internasional mengenai bahasa dan seni pada 20-21 Oktober 2012. CALL: Task 2

For the students of CALL Jul-Des 2012.

  • Find 5 sites for each of language skill that provide online exercise (or communication facility) for those language skills.
  • Use or practice the exercise. And write on that you have reviewed a site (avoid reviewing the same site)
  • Evaluate the facility or exercise provided by the sites.
  • Write a report on microsoft word about the site (name, address, procedure to use, evaluation) send it to at least on Sunday 9 Sept 2012 at 00.00 wib.

Dear students in Speaking class you may practice English pronunciation in CALL laboratory now.. We have Learn to Speak English.. You can measure whether your pronunciation is native like or still non native like… See CALL laboratory for demo…..

Beside that, you can also use the phonemic chart and a good dictionary to help you in CALL lab. For online material, visit the KGI Website for some tips on using drilling successfully in the classroom.

The British Council has recently produced an online phonemic chart where you can actually hear the sounds by clicking on the phonemic symbols. Follow this link-

FInal Project for CALL

For the Final Project of CALL subject you need to make an e-learning material that suitable for the First Year of University students. The material can be reading, vocabulary, grammar, listening, writing, or speaking, You are required to combined all the software/application that we have studied in CALL.

The Final project is done in group of four students. Each group for all classes must not have the same material, so ask your chairperson and or from other class to make sure that there is no overlapping topic.
